Skoper vs PlanSwift
PlanSwift is desktop takeoff and estimating software from ConstructConnect. You open the plans, click or trace each quantity, apply assemblies and pricing, and build the bid. It has been a standard tool for trade contractors for years and its newer Takeoff BOOST tier adds AI-assisted first-pass takeoffs. It is a good product, and this page tries to be fair to it.
Skoper takes a different approach. You upload the plans and Skoper does the takeoff, the pricing, the assumptions, and the scope of work, then hands you the files.
| Feature | Skoper | PlanSwift |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | Automated estimating from uploaded plans | Takeoff and estimating software you operate |
| How the takeoff happens | Skoper reads every sheet and produces the quantities | You point, click, and trace; the Takeoff BOOST tier adds an AI-assisted first pass |
| Pricing the estimate | Included, using your price book or market rates | Included, using your assemblies and cost data |
| Scope of work document | Included, Word format | Not a feature |
| Assumptions and sources | Included, every quantity sourced | Your own notes |
| Time per estimate | About 3 minutes for a typical set | Hours of takeoff, faster with practice |
| Platform | Browser, any computer | Windows desktop only; Mac not supported |
| Collaboration | Any team member can open the project in the browser | Files passed between users |
| Price | $149/month for 10 estimates, $349/month for 30, 3 free to start | $2,000 per seat per year (Essential), $3,000 (Core with Takeoff BOOST), 14-day free trial |
| Best fit | Contractors who want the estimate done, then review it | Estimators who want to measure every quantity themselves |
Where PlanSwift is the better choice
If you want to control every click of the takeoff, PlanSwift gives you that. It is mature, it has deep assembly libraries, and many estimators know it well. If your process is built around measuring by hand and you're happy with the time it takes, there is no reason to change.
Where Skoper is the better choice
If the takeoff is the bottleneck, Skoper removes it. You get a complete first estimate in minutes instead of an afternoon, with every quantity tied to a sheet so you can check the ones that matter. You are not buying seats, you're paying per estimate, and it runs in a browser on any machine. Your estimator's time goes to judgment instead of clicking.
Using both
Some contractors run Skoper first and spot-check the high-value quantities in their existing takeoff tool. That's a reasonable way to start.
